Fad diets - Appealing or appalling?

An estimated one in three female teenagers, is on some special diet. The temptations are obvious. Fad diets make you thin, fast, or they are supposed to.

Do they work? Yes, and no.

Chances are a fad diet will help you shed pounds in a relatively short time. But it's pretty likely that you will put that weight back on again sooner rather than later because you can't stick to the diet.

There are other drawbacks too. Fad diets can leave you short of vital nutrients, which could mean not growing and being able to fit into those really cool orange dungarees you saw in town :-).

Dizziness, tiredness, headaches, wind (*parp* - pardon me ;-) and feeling sick are among the more immediate side effects of many fad diets.

The relatively small choice of either crispbread, or crispbread with butter soon becomes frustrating and sometimes upsetting.

Sensible diet and lifestyle changes are easier, more enjoyable and will do you a lot more good.
